The Mint Julep is a mainstay of the Kentucky Derby horse race held annually. This variation uses some of the classic ingredients such as bourbon and mint, but goes in another direction with superfine sugar and club soda, and served over crushed ice in a rocks glass.

  • Muddle 2 sprigs of mint in the bottom of a rocks glass, then rub the inside of the glass with mint.
  • Discard the mint, then add ice, sugar and club soda.
  • Top with bourbon (do not stir), and garnish with a sprig of mint.
